Instructions for Solving a 9×9 Sudoku Puzzle (Easy Level)

  1. Understand the Basic Rules:
    • The 9×9 Sudoku grid is divided into nine 3×3 subgrids.
    • Each row, column, and 3×3 subgrid must contain the numbers 1 through 9 exactly once.
    • No number can repeat within any row, column, or 3×3 subgrid.
  2. Starting the Puzzle:
    • Begin by looking for the rows, columns, or subgrids that have the most numbers filled in already. This will give you fewer empty spaces to consider.
    • Identify the missing numbers in these rows, columns, or subgrids.
  3. Fill in the Obvious Numbers:
    • In the rows, columns, or subgrids with only one number missing, fill in the missing number. For example, if a row contains 1 through 8, the missing number must be 9.
  4. Use the Process of Elimination:
    • For rows, columns, or subgrids with multiple numbers missing, use the numbers already present to eliminate possibilities.
    • Check each empty cell within these groups and determine which numbers can be placed there based on the numbers already present in the same row, column, and subgrid.
  5. Cross-Hatching Technique:
    • Look at a specific number (e.g., 1) and see where it can fit in each 3×3 subgrid. Use the existing numbers in the same row and column to eliminate possibilities.
    • Continue this technique for all numbers from 1 to 9.
  6. Look for Single Possibilities:
    • If an empty cell has only one possible number based on the elimination process, fill it in.
  7. Check for Mistakes:
    • Periodically review the puzzle to ensure there are no repeated numbers in any row, column, or subgrid.
    • If you find an error, backtrack to where the mistake might have started and correct it.
  8. Use Logical Deductions:
    • Sometimes, you can deduce a number based on the interaction between rows, columns, and subgrids. Look for patterns and logical deductions.
  9. Repeat the Process:
    • Continue applying these strategies, filling in obvious numbers, using elimination, and cross-hatching until the puzzle is complete.
  10. Stay Patient and Persistent:
    • Sudoku is a game of logic and patience. If you get stuck, take a break and return to the puzzle with fresh eyes.
