Animal Farm Crossword Puzzle

“Animal Farm” by George Orwell is an allegorical novella that satirizes totalitarianism, particularly Soviet communism. The story is set on Manor Farm, where the animals, led by the pigs, overthrow their human farmer, Mr. Jones, to establish a society where animals can be equal, free, and happy.

The rebellion is inspired by Old Major, an elderly pig who shares his dream of an animal-run society. After Old Major’s death, two pigs, Snowball and Napoleon, take charge and lead the animals in a successful uprising against Mr. Jones. They rename the farm “Animal Farm” and adopt the Seven Commandments of Animalism, the core principles of their new society.

At first, the farm thrives under animal rule. The pigs, being the smartest of the animals, assume leadership roles, with Snowball and Napoleon vying for control. Snowball is enthusiastic and plans ambitious projects, such as building a windmill to generate electricity. However, Napoleon, who is power-hungry and cunning, sees Snowball as a rival. Using his loyal attack dogs, he drives Snowball off the farm and consolidates his power.

Under Napoleon’s rule, the farm begins to deteriorate. The pigs increasingly exploit the other animals, reserving privileges for themselves while the other animals work harder for less. The commandments are gradually altered to justify the pigs’ actions. For example, “All animals are equal” is eventually changed to “All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.”

Napoleon becomes a tyrannical leader, mirroring the human oppressors the animals initially rebelled against. The pigs start to engage in trade with human farmers, and the distinctions between pigs and humans blur. By the novel’s end, the other animals can no longer tell the difference between the pigs and the humans.

“Animal Farm” concludes with the complete betrayal of the revolution’s ideals. The animals are left disillusioned and oppressed, living under a regime as harsh as the one they overthrew. Orwell’s novella serves as a powerful critique of the corrupting influence of power and the cyclical nature of oppression.
